What are refresher lessons?
Refresher lessons are for people who already hold a full licence. You don't need to start from scratch. Instead, we spend time on the parts of driving that feel rusty or worrying to you, so you can get back on the road feeling safe and in control.
Every refresher is different, because everyone comes back to driving for a different reason. Some people want to cover the basics again. Others just want help with one thing, like a busy roundabout they use every day.
Who they suit
- Drivers who passed years ago and stopped driving, perhaps after moving to a city, having children or relying on a partner to drive.
- People who've had a fright or a minor accident and feel shaken behind the wheel.
- Drivers who are fine on familiar routes but avoid motorways, dual carriageways or town centres.
- Anyone who's moved to a new car, or got used to an automatic and wants practice again.
- Nervous drivers of any age. Lessons are friendly and relaxed, and you set the pace.
What happens on a refresher lesson
Before we start, we'll have a chat about how long it's been since you drove, what's worrying you and what you'd like to get out of it. That tells me where to begin.
- A gentle start. We usually begin on quieter roads, so you can get used to the car, the controls and the feel of driving again.
- Seeing where you are. As you drive, I'll get a sense of what comes back easily and what needs a bit more work.
- Working on your goals. We then focus on whatever you came for, whether that's roundabouts, parking, busier traffic or faster roads.
- A quick review. At the end we'll talk about how it went and what might help next time.
How many lessons will I need?
It depends entirely on you. Some drivers find one or two lessons are enough to remind them they can do it. Others prefer a handful spread over a few weeks. There's no set course and no pressure to book more than you need. We'll talk it through as we go.
Brushing up on the rules
The Highway Code changes from time to time, and some of the rules around junctions, cyclists and pedestrians have been updated in recent years. If it's been a while, it's worth having a read before your lesson, and I'm happy to explain anything along the way.
After your refresher
The best thing you can do after a refresher is keep driving. Short, regular trips on routes you know will help your confidence settle in. Try building up slowly, adding a slightly busier road or a longer journey when you feel ready.
If there's a particular road that still bothers you, a follow-up lesson can focus on just that. Many drivers find that once the first lesson is done, the rest comes back faster than they expected.
Prices
Refresher lessons are £43 per hour. If you'd like more time, you can pre-pay a block of 10 hours for £410, which works out at £41 an hour.

I haven't driven for years. Is a refresher lesson right for me?
Yes, that's exactly who refresher lessons are for. We'll start somewhere quiet and build back up at a pace that feels comfortable, however long it's been.
How many refresher lessons will I need?
There's no fixed number. Some drivers feel ready after one or two, others like a few spread over several weeks. We'll talk about it after your first lesson, and you only book what you need.
I'm really nervous about driving again. Will you be patient?
Of course. Nervous drivers are very welcome, and lessons are friendly and relaxed. We can stop, talk things through and take as long as you need.
Can we focus on one thing, like roundabouts or parking?
Yes. A refresher can be built around whatever worries you most, whether that's a particular junction, parking, busy town roads or faster roads.
How much do refresher lessons cost?
They're £43 per hour. You can also pre-pay a block of 10 hours for £410, which works out at £41 an hour.
Can I have a refresher lesson in the evening or at the weekend?
Yes, I offer evening and weekend appointments. Send me the times that suit you and we'll find a slot.
