What is a driving crash course?
A crash course, sometimes called an intensive course, is a set of driving lessons booked close together rather than spread out over months. Instead of one lesson a week, you might drive several times a week, or for longer sessions on the same day.
The big advantage is momentum. When there's a week between lessons, a fair chunk of each one goes on remembering what you did last time. With lessons close together, you pick up where you left off and move on faster.
Who a crash course suits
Learning intensively isn't for everyone, but it works well for lots of people. It tends to suit you if:
- You have a deadline, such as a new job, a move or a course that needs you to drive.
- You have a free stretch of time, like a summer break or time between jobs.
- You've had lessons before and want to finish what you started.
- You learn best by doing something often rather than in small weekly doses.
Nervous learners are very welcome too. If you're anxious, we'll talk honestly about the pace before you book, and lessons stay friendly and relaxed throughout.
Good to know
You'll need a valid provisional licence before your first lesson. To take your practical test you'll also need to have passed your theory test, so it's worth getting that done early.
How a crash course works
Every course starts with a conversation. Tell me how much driving you've done, when you're free and whether you're working towards a date. From there we can plan how many hours make sense and how to space them.
- Get in touch. Send me a message with your experience and the days that suit, including evenings and weekends.
- Plan your hours. Complete beginners usually need more time than someone who has already had lessons. We'll work out a sensible plan together.
- Drive regularly. Lessons run close together, covering everything from the basics to busier roads, junctions and roundabouts.
- Get test ready. Towards the end we focus on manoeuvres and mock tests, so the real thing feels familiar.
How long a course takes depends on you. Nobody can say in advance exactly how many hours a person will need, and I'd rather be straight with you about that than rush you towards a test before you're ready.
After your course
Intensive learning can be tiring, so get plenty of rest between longer lessons. If you can, practise with a family member or friend in a properly insured car to keep your skills sharp.
Once you pass, you may want a little extra experience on faster roads. Motorway lessons and Pass Plus are both good next steps for building confidence as a new driver.

Crash course questions
Something else you'd like to know? Send me a message and I'll answer it.
How many hours of lessons will I need on a crash course?
It depends on your experience. Complete beginners usually need more hours than people who've already had some lessons. Tell me where you're starting from and we'll plan a sensible number of hours together.
Do I need to pass my theory test first?
You can start lessons with just a provisional licence, but you must pass your theory test before you can book your practical test. It's a good idea to get it done before or early in your course.
Is a crash course a good idea if I'm a nervous driver?
It can be. Driving often helps many people relax as things start to feel familiar. Nervous learners are very welcome, and we'll agree a pace that feels comfortable before you book.
How much does a crash course cost?
Lessons are £43 per hour, or you can pay £410 up front for a block of 10 hours, which works out at £41 an hour. The total depends on how many hours you need.
Can I fit a crash course around work?
Yes, I offer evening and weekend appointments, so you can build up plenty of driving time without taking lots of days off.
How do I book?
Send me a message with your experience and the days and times that suit you, and we'll take it from there.
